Energy Savings

Energy Savings

We save energy.

Studies confirm that Therma-Fuser™ Systems are the most efficient VAV approach, saving 10%-47% energy, as compared to VAV box systems.

Therma-Fuser VAV diffusers allow for all low-pressure, low-energy system designs, which prevent overcooling and overheating. The thermostat-actuator and damper, located inside each unit, is designed to reduce the flow of supply air such that the volume entering the space is only the amount necessary to maintain a set temperature. By preventing overcooling and overheating, overall energy usage is greatly reduced.

Therma-Fuser VAV diffusers also have the lowest pressure drop of any VAV terminal, allowing for low-pressure systems and low energy fan motors.

No energy is required to operate the diffuser’s controls.

Acutherm products are integrated into Energy Pro building modeling software. Modeling and verifying the energy savings of Therma-Fuser diffusers compared to traditional VAV box systems has never been easier. Sources of Energy Savings

  1. Individual Temperature Control (small zones)
  2. Lower Turndown
  3. Eliminate Pressure Drop
  4. All low-pressure duct system

  • Individual Temperature Control

Individual Temperature Control (many small zones) prevents over cooling or over heating when spaces are unoccupied. This is possible using a VAV Box per office, but typically is not an economically viable solution. A Therma-Fuser diffuser system offers many small zones at a similar installed first cost to a typical VAV Box system with a single thermostat for three to six rooms.

Lower Turndown than a VAV Box and Elimination of Total Pressure Drop Over the Box are both related to the limitation of air flow measurement with a VAV box – typically by using a differential pressure sensor. For this measurement to be accurate, a minimum air velocity must be maintained resulting in a VAV box operating with a 25-30% minimum flow and a 0.4”wg/100 Pa total pressure drop.

Therma-Fuser diffuser systems do not have a velocity limitation because pressure independence is achieved by measuring only static pressure. Since a minimum air velocity is not required, any static pressure damper may be oversized to minimize the pressure drop without the penalty of increasing minimum flow and the Therma-Fuser diffuser system can operate at minimum flow of 10% or less.

An All Low-Pressure Duct System further reduces the total system pressure, further reducing the required fan horsepower and energy used. Unlike the medium pressure VAV Box, the Therma-Fuser diffuser is a low-pressure device and only requires a low-pressure supply. The following example illustrates the possible savings from a Therma-Fuser diffuser system: By eliminating the pressure drop over the box and running an all low-pressure system, there is a 33% reduction in fan energy with a Therma-Fuser diffuser system.

Sustainability & Integration

Sustainability & Integration

Sustainable buildings are designed to be environmentally responsible and resource-efficient throughout their lifecycle. For sustaining long-term usefulness, Therma-Fuser™ Systems are modular and adaptable to layout and programming changes, while influencing up to 21 LEED® credits.

Comfort

Comfort

Personal comfort is attainable. Each Therma-Fuser™ VAV diffuser acts as an individual VAV zone of control, providing temperature settings, maintained within 1½°F/0.9°C. No dumping, constant discharge velocity, higher throws, better room air movement, and uniform temperature distribution, define an optimized environment.

Economical

Economical

Unlike a fixed-grill diffuser, a Therma-Fuser™ diffuser is a self-contained zone of control with built-in thermostat and VAV mechanisms. The Therma-Fuser™ Systems are accessible from the room-side, unlike other devices, which require above-ceiling access for ongoing maintenance and calibration. Both on a first installed cost and ongoing operational basis, the Therma-Fuser™ System is the most economical way to improve comfort and energy savings.
